tuberculosis

The Persian physician Ibn Sina is credited with being the first to have studied tuberculosis, back in the 11th century.
He identified it as a contagious disease, and developed the method of quarantine in order to limit its spread.
The bacillus causing tuberculosis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, was identified in 1882 by Robert Koch.
He received the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine in 1905 for this discovery.
