greenhouse gases

A United Nations report states that cattle farming is ‘responsible for 8 percent of greenhouse gases’.
Some of the microbes in a cow’s gut respire by an anaerobic process that produces the gas methane – a more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, having a warming effect 23 times greater.
Cattle emit a large amount of this methane – 95 percent of it through belching.
