Although it is disputed whether it can be called a telephone, the first form of voice communication apparatus was developed by Italian inventor Antonio Meucci in 1856.He constructed what could be termed the first electromagnetic telephone as a way to connect his second-floor bedroom to his basement laboratory, and thus communicate with his wife who was an invalid.
